GM is Out...But Hyundai Might be the Next Chrysler Suitor

2008_jeep_wrangler_green.jpg
Last week it was reported that GM had suspended all talks with Chrysler about an apparent merger after the U.S. treasury denied GM's request for aid to buy Chrysler. Now it're being reported that Hyundai may be interested.

According to Reuters, Hyundai and Chrysler's owners, Cerberus Capital Management, have been in talks about Hyundai acquiring the Jeep brand. Both automakers have not released an official statement about the discussions.

U.S. House Approves $14 Billion Auto Bailout Bill [Auto Industry Financing And Restructuring Act]

The US House approved the Auto Industry Financing and Restructuring Act (aka, "Bankruptcy Lite") by a vote of 237-170. It's morning again in America. Well, at least until the Senate gets involved tomorrow.

The U.S. House of Representatives approved HR 7321, the Auto Industry Financing and Restructuring Act. The bill provides an immediate $14 billion in loans to prevent the collapse of GM and Chrysler and set the stage for government stakes in automakers and Washington-directed restructurings. The vote took place at 8:46 PM this evening by a vote of 237 (Aye) to 170 (noes) to 1 (present) to 26 (not voting) setting up a showdown in the Senate where prospects for passage are not as certain. 2007 Detroit Auto Show: 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Tandc1

The all-new 2008 Chrysler Town & Country is almost identical to the Dodge Grand Caravan we just posted about. They both seat seven and will feature the same array of engines when they hit dealers in the fall. For those interested in what’s moving your brood, the two minivans will come with a choice of three V-6 engines producing 240, 198 or 177 hp.

Unfortunately, the Town & Country also features the odd shifter placement on the dash, but with the images below we also get a look at a new option: ambient halo lighting. It gives the large cabin a nightlight appearance.

We’ll have more information on the Town & Country on Sunday and, as always, more photos are below.
