If you’ve visited a classic GM forum in the last few days, you’ve probable seen this already, but the more people who know about it, the better.
The message came in from Gene Miller last night: At the Hurst/Olds Club of America National Meet in Indianapolis this weekend, four 1979-’84 H/Os were stolen. This was no coincidence, nor a random hit. This was an organized, professional gang of at least five people. Comparing reports and surveillance tapes later, some of the thieves had actually been “shopping,” wandering the show field with cell phone in hand, apparently taking orders.
According to Judy Badgley of the H/O Club,
It took them less than 1 minute to gain entry to a car, have it running and leaving the parking lot. They used a white crew cab pick up truck and drove into the lot and parked like they were a guest. One person exited the truck and hit the car, then both left. They went back and forth from one hotel to the other, not raising suspicion. This was evident from reviewing the hotels security tapes.
…Anyone having information about any of these cars can contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS or Judy Badgley at 517-645-7438 or djbadgley@gmail.com. Please pass this along to ALL of your car friends no matter what make and model they collect. Let’s make sure this doesn’t happen to someone else. KEEP TRACK ON EBAY AND CRAIGSLIST FOR THESE UNUSUAL CARS AND/OR PARTS!
A local Indy TV station has a crummy little video. Gene reports that the ‘79 was recovered, at least partially stripped; we’ll post an update if we get one. Rewards of varying amounts up to $10,000 have been posted.
