One million Audi fans can't be wrong

2008 was a tough year, but apparently it wasn't equally as tough for everybody. Audi has now reported that it broke through the 1 million unit mark last year, selling more vehicles than it ever has before.

Total global sales in 2008 came to 1,003,400 vehicles - up 4.3% over last year - including 82,000 units in December. But while the American market has typically been a vital region for European premium marques especially, U.S. sales dropped 6.1% for Audi this year, and nearly 10% in December when U.S. sales accounted for less than 10% of the company's global sales. Ingolstadt attributes its sales success to the dozen new models it introduced last year, including the Q5 and A4 (seen above). Audi TT: Impressions of 3rd generation

The 2nd generation of the Audi TT is barely out and already impressions for the next generation are flying around. These are some great ones, done by professional designer Meni Tsirbas. Really nice, loving it!Here are some quick sketches I recently did speculating what an MK3 TT may look like. Audi R8 V10 debuting in Detroit, cabrio coming in 2010

While other automakers are dropping out of the Detroit Auto Show left and right, Audi is heading to Motor City with guns blazing, beginning with the 2010 Audi R8 V10.

Car and Driver decided to put the rumors to rest that the updated super coupe is officially coming to Detroit, packing a 5.2-liter V10 putting out 520 hp and 398 lb.-ft. of torque. Aside from the obvious aural and performance differences, the V10-powered R8 will make use of a pair of larger dual exhaust tips rather than the V8 model's quad outlets. Expect new wheels, upgraded brakes and a few changes to the interior as well.

The oft-rumored Audi R8 Spyder will hit the European market in late 2009, with sales beginning in the U.S. sometime in 2011. According to C&D, the reason for the delayed Stateside launch is due to dealers that "have their hands full allocating coupes." Whatever that means. The R8's stylistic party pieces - it's side blades - will be shrunken down to accommodate a power-operated soft top, and the interior will carry over unchanged.

This has been coming for a ling time now, the most famous sports car company in Germany taking over the one of the most famous car makers in the world, VW.

Yet things have not always been that way for Porsche, way back in the 80’s and 90’s they were struggling to survive, the cars were not that popular and they made some bad choices in design, but that all now appears to be behind them, their range is now probably the best sports car range available from any car maker, and they have managed to secure a significant market share.

Yet they only produce 100,000 cars per year, which is not a lot at all, if go on the other global brands, but still they have managed to buy their way into the massive VW company whose sales are around $200 billion compared to Porsches $8 billion, by anyone’s standards an incredible achievement.

So what next? The problem with massive organizations is that they tend to become decadent, with the influence of Porsche I suspect that there will be some changes, but not straight away, but the main concern would be for the other brands such as Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti, these brand compete with Porsche directly and it has to stand to reason that will not continue, so who will be the first victim? My tip would have to be Buggati, but lets wait and see what happens.

The second generation of Audi RS6 will be powered by a twin turbocharged V10, 5.2 liter engine, with a whopping 580hp. It’s engine placed under the aluminum hood has 145hp more than the first generation.It has been presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show and it may get on sale in the Us by Q2 or Q3 of 2008. Redesigned to be more aggressive, powerful and lightweight, it has a heavily profiled front bumper with large colling ducts, aluminum frame and bixenon lenses.

The new RS6 comes equipped with 19 inch wheels with the possibility to opt for 20-inch ones. Reaching 0 to 62mph in 4.6 seconds makes it fast enough to satisfy any speed fanatic, but also the usual drivers.

What would you want more than it’s six speed automatic gearbox, with the shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel ?

This car is a beast on the roads, but wait for the new RS8, it will be it’s daddy.
